Start a Biking Program

Start a Biking Program

The Instructional Session "Everything You Need to Know to Start a Biking Program for Children with Special Needs" was presented for the very first time by Ginny Paleg, DScPT, PT, MS (Montgomery County Public Infants and Toddlers Program, Rockville, MD) and Jennifer Miros (St. Louis Children's Hospital Cerebral Palsy Sports and Rehabilitation Center) at the 26th Annual International Seating Symposium held in Vancouver, BC in March 2010.

This Beginner/Intermediate Session introduced participants to "Biking for children with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injuries and other diagnoses has a rich anecdotal history as well as a strong evidence basis. This one hour educational session will assist clinicians and equipment providers in designing optimal biking programs (assisted and independent biking), developing appropriate measurable functional outcomes and optimizing features to assist all children, especially those who are not community ambulators, to bike successfully. Two case studies will be used to illustrate these concepts."
